We are an independently owned family business (now with the third generation) that has been serving New Zealand for over 40 years. Since 1982 it’s been our mission to provide contractors, farmers and lifestyle property owners with trusted power equipment.

Nationwide coverage
It's important we can get the products and support you need fast, so as well as our South Island base, we have a distribution centre in Mangere, Auckland, where we dispatch and demonstrate machines for the Auckland and Upper North Island region. We also have dealers for our Bobcat, Canycom, DR and Deutscher ranges throughout New Zealand so visit our dealer locator to find out more.

Company History
1982 | Opawa Mower & Garden Centre
In September 1982, Dennis and Campbell Watt bought Opawa Mower & Garden Centre, selling a range of garden tools and equipment from humble premises at No. 4 Opawa Road, Christchurch.
1987 | First Walker Mower sold
The Walker Mower was, and still is one of OMC's great passions. Sold in 1987 to a high country station in Canterbury, this mower is still in use today. With it's revolutionary grass collection system and tilt up deck, Walker Mowers became extremely popular throughout New Zealand very quickly and OMC Power Equipment is proud of our part in the success story that Walker is in New Zealand to this day.
1991 | Opawa Mowers & Chainsaws
With Anthony and Doug both now with the firm, growing business required a move down the road to a freshly renovated premises at No. 16 Opawa Road, and the business was known as Opawa Mowers & Chainsaws. The range expanded to include wide range of power equipment and ride on mowers.
1997 | OMC Power Equipment Begins
A growing suite of brands required more space and a further move, and 100 Gasson Street, Christchurch was the answer. A move out of Opawa into Sydenham meant the Opawa Mowers & Chainsaws name was changed to simply "OMC Power Equipment".
Late 1990's
By the late 90's, the OMC range had grown substantially to include a wide range of turf equipment including being the distributor of John Deere golf & turf for the South Island.
2011 | Earthquake!
The 2011 Christchurch Earthquake caused substantial damage to the exterior of Gasson St premises and the substantial renovations were undertaken. By this point, OMC had grown to be a key nationwide supplier of a range of renowned international brands like Canycom mowers & tracked dumpers.
2016 | BOB-CAT Mowers & Expansion to Auckland
In 2016, we re-introduced the renowned American BOB-CAT mowers to the New Zealand market, previously known as Ransomes. We also opened up premises in Mangere, Auckland to support our growing network of customers and dealers throughout the upper North Island. Pictured customer - Southern Paprika, Warkworth
2022 & Beyond | New Head Office & Warehouse
After bursting at the seams at our existing premises at Gasson Street, we opened our new head office and warehouse location at 98 Wigram Road, Christchurch. Offering drastically improved warehousing/logistics, and much better display areas, this new site will support OMC's continued expansion supporting a range of top international brands throughout the 2020's and beyond. Our Gasson Street retail garden equipment store closed in mid 2024, the end of an era - and we are now looking to the future, with the Christchurch team consolidated at the Wigram branch which features the full range of our Mowing Equipment, Civil Equipment and Generator ranges, as well as After Sales Service, all under one roof.
